Default Why must they stop me?

You know, I always wondered why I can't go passed a certain top speed. In my 2000 LS, I will start out and floor it. 1st gear goes from 0 - 54 mph, 2nd reaches from 55 - 90 ish, then 3rd kicks in from 90 - 115 or so. 3rd gear is only hovering at about 3k rpm... imagine the possibilities if it went the rest of the way up to like 5k rpm of the 4th gear... IF it did that how fast would you theoretically go? AND can any "governors" or "restricter plates" be taken off to allow me to utilize those top gears........... AND one more thing, I know in Need for Speed and those type of games it is possible to alter the gear ratios or what ever, can it be done in our MC's, and is it possible to "add" a fifth and/or sixth gear transmission?

~~~Just a curious young MC owner.
I believe a tuner can disable the governor. More details will come from those with more knowledge, I'm sure.
Rev Limiters and Governors.
Both can be altered with a tune.
Is your car already tuned or modded? I want to know how you get up to 55 in 1st gear...I don't run my car WOT that much, but the times I have I can't accomplish that.
I don't know much about the gears, but I know higher gears are better, and a lot of people who want to turn their car into a fast car/drag car will give it higher gears, so that much is possible. As for adding another gear? Like 5th gear? I don't think you can just "add" that to your tranny, you'd be better off buying a 5 gear or 6 gear tranny from a Camaro.
Remember it's kinda worthless to have a car that can do 150 if it takes 10 minutes to get there. I consider acceleration more important than top speed, but that's just me.
My Car will go to about 58 MPH at WOT in 1st gear, and 2nd pull to about 98 MPH.
A Camaro Tanny will not work with a Monte...the Camaro's are rear wheel drive.
Taller gears are better on the top end, but for off the line power, lower gears are actually better.
Now that you mention, I actually recall there was one time I got my car up to 50 something in 1st, don't remember where it went to 2nd.
You're right...I forgot, only way that would work is if you gave the Monte a RWD system, and that would be very costly.
Yea, I'm pretty sure that you can do at least 50-52 MPH in 1st gear, and 98 in 2nd gear if your car is stock shift points. My mom's Bonneville 3.8L with the same tranny has those shift points.
It would be REALLY costly for sure, and at that rate, I would just change to the Camaro engine too if it fit! But thats just out of the question cost wise! LOL
I was laughing last night too.
No offense to the OP, but you can't learn how to modify a real car based on a video game.
