Turn signals only work when they want too
Hi All.
Awhile back I found a thread that answered this question pretty well, but now I can't seem to find it.
I have a 2002 Monte Carlo LS, sadly the turn signals aren't always there for me when I need them. Which is a dangerous problem, especially in rush hour or at night.
I'm trying to determine if it is a problem connected to the Hazard lights or if it is a problem in the steering column. If you have run into this problem before, please let me know how you fixed it.
I must say though, that the problem seems to be more constant when it is humid outside (summer). In the winter, I find it is not as frequent. Go figure.
Thanks for your help everyone, I'm finally going to get this fixed if I can figure out where to begin.
Great information on this website!

I have the same problem... kind of. It's happened to me a few times only in the summer. Usually if I just touch the hazard button or barely push it they come right on.. I'd like to know how or what to fix as well. Hoping mine doesn't become more frequent.

This is an older thread and the first time I have seen it. If playing with the hazard switch makes the indicators work again it's a pretty safe bet that the contacts in the switch are dirty. I'd try pulling the switch, spray some electrical contact cleaner into it through the slotted openings, operate it several times then reinstall it. If that doesn't cure the problem then the contacts are probably worn and the switch needs replacing.

I had the same problem, replaced the hazzard switch all good now, If I remember the flasher is built into the hazzard switch. Part is cheap on RockAuto. There is a nice youtube vidoe by a fellow MCFr if you are concerned about just ripping into the dash.
