Trying To Decide
Hello everyone I need some help on decicding whether or not to trade in my car or not in 2013 I found my dream car a 07 Monte Carlo LT which I financed when I got it it only had 77,000 miles on it custom rims and dual exhaust pipes however in the year or so I've had to do work on it besides the occasional oil change brakes and tune up I discovered the car was misfiring then one day driving on the highway the transmission went out on me I paid $1800 to have it rebuilt over the summer the engine started to go I crapped out another $1200 for the engine now it runs fine and I feel as if since I've put so much money into it I should just finish paying it off which I only have two more years on it and keep it however I am scared something else will go wrong my Monte Carlo is almost at 87,000 miles and I know usually the closer it gets to 90,000 more things tend to go wrong I dont want to put out more big money however I realize that if I trade it in for something else I can also wind up with another problem car can someone give me some advice please

Hi Monsta, you have already replaced the most expensive items in the car. I know that you had your trans rebuilt, and hopefully the motor you got was rebuilt or brand new. There are always going to be repairs to do on a car. I've spent near $10K on My Minion in the last 3 years in repairs. But I paid Cash for her. So i own her.
My experience with Trade ins is that when the take the old car, what ever is left over after the final payment is tact on to the price of the car you are buying. If you are in the negative. So if you owe 6k and the car is only worth 2k, 4k is put on top of the price of the new car. And you are in the negative before you drive off the lot. The question you have to ask is, is that worth it to you?
If you are mechanical inclined, or willing to learn, you are in the right forum to be able to make your Monte last for well over 200k miles. There are a couple of members here who have over 300k on there Monte's. I am about to turn over 200k on mine. I will never get the $$$ back that I put into her. But I intend to own her until the Sun blows up!
As I said, you have to figure out how much you owe, compared to what you can get in trade for her. And then decide whether it's worth it to you to trade her or keep her. Plus you have spent a real pretty penny in repairs for her. You should at least get out of her what you put into her. And since you put a motor and Trans in her, you've got a lot of miles to go before either of them should go again. You have a lot to consider.
Also, The_Maniac has a post on common problems with these cars. Most of them you have already taken care of just by replacing the drive train. And honestly I haven't heard of many motors going on these cars unless they have been neglected or abused.
What ever you do, I wish you luck!

Thats a bit bizarre for the engine an transmission to have gone out at such low mileage. If both have been replace then all thats left is your standard maintenance items, brakes, suspension components and so on.
