traction control!!help

Default traction control!!help

previous owner of my 2000 monte carlo ss disabled the traction control. is it fused or is it a qucik connect plug? if so where is it located. I cant find it. any help is appreciated.

how was it "disabled"?

unplugged at the module i assume.

i pluggd it back in checked it with the button a couple times it went on and off fine. then after driving for like an hour trac off and ABS lit up and stayed on.

That must be why the person disabled it.

You probably have the very common wheel hub assembly issue.

Get the codes read, and find out which assembly it is.

the wheel bearing on the front right is bad right now. would that be why it came on?

If the bearing is bad and has a lot of play, then that probably is the cause, but I'd check the codes just to be sure. Even though one bearing is bad, there is still a chance the other could be the one with the bad sensor

If the light is telling you it's that assembly, then yes that would be the reason.

In the wheel hub assemblies our out bearings, and various sensors. One being a speed sensor that is linked to the Traction Control system, and when that one goes, it will trip your trac off / abs lights.

alright thanks. that helps. so I bought the wheel bearing once its installed will the code just stop or will i have to have it reset?(i do not know much about cars/codes, sorry)

It should go away on it's own. It may take a pre-determined set of starts without the problem though.

Your car runs a diagnostics check everytime you start the car, so it could just need to see that you fixed it a certain amount of times before it agrees that it's fixed, or you could ask someone to erase the code and see if it comes back on or not.
