When I had my stock wheels with stock tire size on the car, which the tires were 225/60/16 I believe, I had no issues with with the TPM light.

I got new rims and tires over the winter, upgraded to 17" wheels and put on some 235/55/17 Firehawk Persuits. FYI - Persuits say Max 50 P.S.I. I run them at about 40 right now, not saying that is right or wrong, but that is what the shop put them at when I had them installed.

So now, my TPM light comes on. I can reset it, then it stays off for a couple of days, then it will come back on... just a cycle. And yes, the pressure stays consistant because I check it weekly because of the light coming on.

So my question is, since I have aftermarket stuff on there, can the TPM report an error because it thinks the tire pressure is too high??? Is there something that I can do to get around the light coming on? Or since the persuits are rated at 50 PSI, should I just run them at more like 45 psi right now?

You should run them more like 30-32 PSI, since they say 50PSI on the sidewall, that means that is there max before they start to have problems and possibly blow out.

Am I right to assume that you have a 00-04 Monte? Those TPMS work with the wheel hub assemblies, so one of those might be going bad also.

 

agree with mike, put the psi at the factory recommended psi for the car.

are you sure that they put TPMS sensors in the wheels?

 

It's on '03 SS so the sensors are in the hubs, not on the wheels.

It would be an extreme longshot and strangely coincidental that the hub would have started going bad at the same time I had the new wheels put on... Not dismissing it, but would be a strange coincidence.

First thing I will do is drop the PSI to factory settings like you mention... then I will run with it for a bit and see what happens.
