Hi Chuck,
Your '04 Monte Carlo SS Supercharged should have
tire pressure monitor as standard equipment.
Check your owner's manuel, and your Rims for unit.
Michelins are high rated tires, but I would do your homework
and check reviews/prices from allTire sites.
Sorry that you had a flat on your trip, but happy that you
didn't have a accident.
I believe `tires are the most important investment that you
can make for your Monte.
They are the only thing that touch the pavement.
I would get the best that I could afford.
Good Luck `Chuck.
Let us know what you decide.
Hi Chuck, below is information about your SS[:-]
2004 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Review
This coupe cousin to the Impala sedan adds a supercharged performance model for 2004. Monte Carlo comes in LS, SS, and new Supercharged SS trim. The LS has a 3.4-liter V6. The SS uses a 3.8 V6 and firmer suspension. The Supercharged SS has a supercharged 3.8, stiffer-yet suspension tuning, 17-inch wheels vs. the other models' 16s, and special trim. All Monte Carlos have front bucket seats, 4-speed automatic transmission, and 4-wheel disc brakes. ABS, traction control, and a tire-inflation monitor are standard on both SS models and are grouped as an option for the LS. A driver-protecting side airbag is optional on all models, but a side airbag for the passenger is not available. OnStar assistance and satellite radio are optional across the line.

I had an 04 SC/SS prior to my 07, and I just ran the stock 17" Goodyear radials. I live in southern Ontario, and we sometimes can get a decentblast of winter and I never had a problem, she would go through anything.
As far as I remember, my 04 tire monitor system ran off the ABS system somehow, which would sense ifthe rotation of a tire changed, meaning the air pressure had changed. It won't give you a readout of pressure on each tire, just if one losing pressure. If I remember correctly, the system had to be reset, each time you topped up the air pressure. It says how to do it in the manual. If you didn't get the manual, a dealer or decent tire shop should be able to show you how to reset the system.
Possibly, the system in your car was never set properly, and that's why it failed to give you a warning.
Good Luck

Thanks guys,
Didnt know it was standard for the SS, always thought it to be an option. thats good to know.
I went with a yokohama tire that my friend reccomended, and i am very pleased with the results.
Went with a 45 profile instead of the 55 and made it a bit wider, 245 for the 235
The speedo is about 3-mph faster than im going. not a big deal. they grip like hell and are great wet/snow traction tires.
Im happy, and Space, HOW DO YOU FIND ALL THIS INFO?? All your posts are like a lesson in Monte History, Keep it up!!!

I think the Goodyear tires that come on these cars SUCK! I am a Michelin fan. The Michelin Energy tires on my '01 SS LE, 16", were THE best tires I've EVER had. The Michelin Pilots I'm running now aren'r even close. The 620 treadlife rating is excellent, but the A rating for traction is low, as is the H speed rating, unless they are going on your LeSabre. If these tires are a replacement for the Energy tires, they should be great, but if they are like the Pilots, stay away, but the pilots cost WAY more than these.
You can't go wrong with Michelins. I put them on my Dad's LeSabre.

Hi Chuck, I was happy to read that you got new tires. Are they Z rated ? Which one of the below did you get ?After you put a few miles on them, let the membersknow how you like them. Give us a review : )Thanks

OK heres the ones in went with,
http://www.yokohamatire.com/TireIntro.asp?TireID=300
Yokohama AS430 245/45/17
Ive put about 100 miles on them in 2 days and I'm nothing but happy with them. They grip really well, are quiet (something those crapyears weren't) have a nice ride to them and seem pretty stiff in cornering. they give off a very low howl at highway speeds, but its really not noticeable until you focus in on it. but its a very good tire.
I still have to take the car to the back roads to see if there is a REAL improvement in cornering. i know the stock Goodyear's would let the *** end of the car come out under hard cornering, and spun like crazy at the track. when spring come ill find out the true story.
