No prob, I just happened to be looking for the same info a few months ago when my water pump went out and held on to the link. That same search is what led me to MCF.

Well, I did it. Engine temp's sitting at 199 after about 5 minutes...think it's fixed! Of course, it was only after I did this that I realized I put green coolant in with the orange Dex-cool...was too worried about the tstat to think about it. Now I've got to flush the system, ugh.

I just bought a new thermo from O'Reillys and they sold me a fail-safe 195 one for -$12. Said lifetime warranty on it... Figured when time off permits I'll swap em out. Car likes to shut off at 190-220 range and a code was thrown for coolant temp sensor. Buddy is an ASE certified mech and he suggested the thermo could be causing the sensor to throw a code... Figured I would start there and then if not, do the sensor and while I'm at it, drain the system(not flush) and add new coolant. Suggestions on coolant type?

Just wanted to say thanks for all the great info. Just had to change the tstat on my 05 3800 since it was running cold and had the check engine light.

Just saw this, sorry-would go with the green stuff (can't for the life of me remember the name) if you're going to flush the system (it can be a real pain). If you don't get it COMPLETELY cleaned out, then only put back in what's already there (probably DEXCOOL).
