Default It sucks to be me.....................

I posted sometime ago about issues with my blower fan not coming on. Which then turned into the blower fan the digital compass and my cruise control not working. So took the Monte into the dealership and it turns out that the ignition switch is done. $400 CDN later it's fixed and so are the fan, cruise and compass. However, now my security light is on, they tried 10 times to reset the thing before finally determing that now my Body control module was dead. Another $400 cdn later an all was great.

Here is the part that really burns my ***.

My low tire pressure monitor kicks on, no biggie I check my tires sure enough one is low and I'm feeling pretty good that at least something’s are working right (I spoke a little to soon here). I go to rest the monitor through the radio and the function is gone, I can't reset the tire monitor. So back to the dealership yesterday.

Now they are telling me a different module is gone, this one controls the tire pressure monitor along with anti lock breaks etc.
$1400 cdn for this puppy. And well I'm a little pissed to say the least, I haven't even had the car for more than four months.

So like I said it sucks to be me.

Any suggestions on how I might double check the Dealer ships diagnosis?
Anyone else have these kinds of problems with the modules?
I'm thinking I may have something else going on here............

Sorry to hear about your woes. I hope it all comes together for you. In the long run, I've heard it is better to repair a car than invest in a new one. Sounds like you have a nice looking Monte regardless.

I would invest in a code reader for one.... Some will not only tell you the code but also give you a description of the code. Next, if you feel that the dealership is jerking you find a reliable auto shop and steer clear of the dealer.

How many miles do you have on it?

I have aprox 9600KM (5965 miles) on the Monte now.

I think I'm going to do exactly what you suggest and look into haveing someone else take a look.
I also plan on getting a code reader in the near future.

I've been thinking about this latest modual and something is bugging me.
If my low pressure tire sensor is working then maybe there is nothing wrong with the modual.
Maybe all I need to do is find the right person who knows how to re-instal the rest feature on the radio.

And so it goes.................

I think the tire pressure monitoring system uses the ABS system to calculate the tire pressures. There isn't an actual sensor in each tire like some other systems where the sensor is integrated into the valve stem. It uses the ABS system (probably wheel speed sensors, I assume) to determine if one tire is low on air compared to the rest. I think it has to calculate a difference of at least 6-8 pounds between wheels for it to set the light.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong... I'm sure NYCRISS can tell you exactly how it works.

From my understanding your spot on. It measures tire rotation speed. If one is lower on air than the others it turns at a slower rate.

Anyone using nitro in place of regular air? Among all the other stuff I do I manage somewhere around 80 total vehicles and were about to green slime and nitro every vehicle in our fleet..

You guys have it exactly.
Essentally the system monitors wheel rotation.
The theory is that if a tire is going low the wheel rotates at a different speed.
And yes it is all connected into this $1400 CDN modual which happend to be the same one for anit-lock breaking etc. Which makes sense considering how the system works.

The actual modula is called the EBCM/ETBCM.
I just read over the estimate completely, apparently the issue I am having, not being able to rest the low tire pressure monitor, and the fact that their testing (which appears to be no more than connecting it up to the computer) shows nothing wrong made them check the service bulletins.

So guess what the service bulletin says................replace the EBCM/ETBCM.

I don't know I still think something stinks here. The system seems to be working short of not being able to be reset. I think it's time to get educated on this and see if I can get a better answer than what I have so far, at least a cheaper one than $1400.

Will post more if I find anything useful out.

Does your ABS and Traction Control work properly?

If so, I'd say to hell with the tire pressure monitoring if it were my car.
