Default stumped...06 ss intermittent starting problem

Just upgraded and bought an 06 ss with 44k miles. Occasionally it will not start, just engages the starter for about 10 seconds but won't fire. Threw a code for crankshaft position sensor. Replaced sensor but it still does it on occasion. Today it engaged starter for a few seconds, backfired a little then started. Dealer is stumped as well, because it's so intermittent. Any ideas/suggestions appreciated!

Don't quote me, but when you change the crank position sensor, I believe their is a "relearn" process you have to perform. If that was not done, it might be related. Again, don't quote me on that.

Sitting at the dealer, looks like they did the relearn when they installed it. When it fails to start it throws cam and crank sensor codes as well as ignition codes. Wondering if it isn't the ECM at this point... Thanks for the suggestion.

Here's a stab in the dark...

Whens the last time you load tested or replaced the battery? How old is it?
It could have a cell in the battery that's about to fail.. or is failing... Intermittn electrical issues are a real pain in the but... Sometimes its the simplest of things that will fix the problem...I'm guessing your getting that reoccurring code do to a loss of voltage during start up due to the heavy draw of power upon turning the key. sometimes a faulty cell in the battery,
will cause such an issue. This is what my neighbor whos a master mechanic (certified) said it could be. I trust him he does a lot if not all my mechanical work. Without ever having a problem.

He did however also mention it could be a simple connection issue at the battery or possibly a corroted connection at the starter.. burnt wire or winding with in the starter.

Good luck hope this helps.

I had a problem just like this on my 2003 Monte...I never figured it out and seemed like I replaced everything. I just traded it in soon after haha

Common problem... have them CHANGE the Camshaft position sensor and check the wiring from the sensor up to just behind the steering res to pump hose, for damage(usually found in the area along the high pressure line.)

Thanks. A new camshaft sensor did the trick!
