Default Speaker Replacement

1987 Monte Carlo SS.

I just installed a brand new radio so now I want to replace all the original factory speakers because only the one above the steering wheel works and it sounds muffled.

Where do I start as far as finding speakers and how do I put them in??

I admit, I am not too familiar with the stereo gear in the 4th gen Montes. But I have some general ideas.

If it's like many GM cars from the 80's, you might be able to gain access to the fronts by using a small flat head screw driver and gently popping the front speaker grills out of the dash pad OR the dash pad has to be unscrewed and lifted off the dash.
If you crawl into the trunk, the rears might be held in with metal "baskets" and if so, should have a retaining clip to release them if that is the case.

Take your time, inspect and be patient. Best of luck!

You can go to this web site
CHEVROLET MONTE CARLO 1987 speakers - find speakers that fit your CHEVROLET MONTE CARLO car at Sonic Electronix
Or just plug the make , model and year of your car, Plus "Speaker Size" into your browser and sites will pop up the the location and size of your speakers. Then you can go the your local retailer and buy what will fit!

The 6x9s in back are replaced by crawling thru the trunk / get them. U gotta use a really short Philips that fits between the dash and the windshield 2 get out the screws that hold the grill in place 4 tha fronts. Can't remember what size the fronts are.
