Default spark plug: please help

So I ordered plugs and wires for my 01 ss. Did cylinders 1,3,5 yesterday. The plugs are a little shorter than what's stock. I couldn't figure out and didn't have enough time to mess with cylinders 2,4,6. Anyway, I just got to work and as soon as I pulled in to park, my motor starts rocking. I pop the hood, look at the wires, and they all popped out a little. Would a shorter plug be the cause of this? I can get them back in and hopefully make it home.

Here's what I got.

Could I take the heat shields off around the wire so that it can get a better grip, are they really necessary? Please help.

Thanks,
M.C.

heat protection isnt the main purpose of those shields. the shields are there to prevent the wires from touching the cylinder head and causing the spark to skip the plug. y did u get "performance" spark plugs?

I figured I'd get something nice. I also got new wires (stock), do you think it could be the plug causing the problem or am I just not pushing them in hard enough?

I think I figured out the problem. The new plugs are shorties, so the wire butts right up to the ceramic part of the plug. Since the metal piece goes on the outside of it, it's going to take a lot of force to get the wire to click to the plug.
