Default some problems

ok so I've had a few problem since i got my car almost a year ago. its an 01 so its 6 years old now. I've heard some people say their monte's eat up engine oil. is this true for all of them? or am i racing too many civics? anyways to protect against this damaging my engine? basically what it does is about 1500 miles after an oilchange my change engine oil light comes on. i can put more oil in it and it'll go away. also, if i really gun it, it'll redline. I've never seen an automatic car redline before. is this normal? or am i just special? and one last thing. apparently my brake calipers have stayed depressed. not sevearly, but enough to wear my front left and right rear down considerably. so i had those replaced today. anyone know anything about this? anyone know where i cant get REALLY cheap, but good calipers. thanks fellas for any tips, i appreciate it.

It does sound like you are a lil hard on the monte, but none the less I think they can take it. Any car can redline, now if they have a rev limiter, they wont.
As far as the brakes go try this. http://replacement.car-stuff.com/parts/carstuff/quote.jsp?year=2001&product=N1040-149827&application=000785110∂=Brake%20Calipe r&category=N&returnurl=null&dp=true&am p;showdc=true#top

Hope this helps. Let us all know.

And im sure someone can help you with the engine oil problem, is it leaking anywhere?

No it doesn't leak. I park in the same place at work and the same place in the garage at night and there are no puddles. unless its leaking onto the engine or something but then there would be smoke, but there isnt any. so i dunno. and why do calipers have to be so expensive? I can only afford 1 at a time. and they guy at the brake place yesterday said if im replacing one its highly recommended i replace the other one too. is this true or am i getting shafted? anyways, thanks again!

My '01 at 116,00mi used about 1qt of oil every 6,000mi when I sold it, and it didn't leak any, but I did notice a little puff of blue smoke on startup. I use Mobile 1 Extended Performance guaranteed 15,000mi oil and change it every 12,000mi, and the filter at 6,000mi. Tires get rotated every 6,000mi. My change oil light rarely came on on the '01, and has never come on on this car. The Onstar diagnosis confirms the good oil life. I have 52,000mi now on the Intimidator.
I don't believe calipers nor the rotors need to be replaced in pairs, but pads should be. The biggest thing to me would be that they are the exact same type and brand, but not necessarily from a matched set. I use Hawk HPS pads and Powerslot rotors. Pads are cheap, but the rotors are salty, but can be turned, and most are throw away rotors now days.
