Default Sky high oil pressure

Just got in the car and oil pressure gauge was at the 3/4 mark, upon giving it gas the gauge nearly spikes.
I'm worried about blowing a seal somewhere before I get it the 15 miles to my shop.
oil pressure sending unit?, clog? Anybody else seen this before or know the cause?
Any and all help/advice is appreciated

My first thought, get a scan tool that can read show you the reading from the PCM. This may be as simple as a failing stepper motor in your instrument cluster. The motor may be starting in an incorrect position and therefore anything is does from that point is unreliable. It may return itself to normal (my wife's Impala has a bad stepper motor in it that did that at least twice to us and right now it's fine, I haven't gotten to swapping it out yet).

Change your name to hammer because you nailed it. Thats exactly what it looks like it is. Now where to I find a stepper motor?

The only place I've seen stepper motors like the ones on the cluster are eBay. But I'm sure other place have them OR can get them (such as radio shack).

I had a similiar issue on my Monte, then the Speedo went. I pulled the cluster and sent to gmguageguys.com and they changed all the steppers and re-calibrated to factory spec for $140. They give a lifetime warranty for that price, I believe he changed all the bulbs too, chose not to go with LED swap though. Wanted to keep it stock at this time. Good luck with the repair.
