Jason, one thing you might want to check. I had issues with my 02 SS jumping out of overdrive. It turned out to be my throttle position sensor. If it sends crazy signals to the ecm, it will make the car shift erratically at times. Just a thought.
sorry for the late reply! I had checked that and it seemed that my tps was working fine, though I did notice at idle it likes to jump between 0% and .38% which is so little but that seems to be enough to make the cars idle jump up and down about 70 Rpm or so. That engine surging is super annoying. I'm not sure if this is typical or not so today I will replace it. On a side note I talked to my mechanic and he seems to think it could be the torque converter. To be clear he never looked at it because I couldn't leave it with him and he was booked. But from all the research Ive done it really does seem like it's the solenoids. The trans has been acting up like this all month. I ran some test on the solenoids today and everything seemed fine...took it for a drive and as if by magic it's working amazing. I didn't expect my car to be in some quantum state..... Makes my life harder.
So just listening to the engine I noticed a VERY quiet scraping in 3rd (it was either 3rd or 4th). Any ideas on any of this crazy mess?
So i did a little more testing. I had best described the feeling I was having as the trans completely skipping 4th and going straight to overdrive resulting in a hard shift. I found what I think is proof that this maybe is qhats happening. I dont know if this is even possible but what seems to be shown on the OBD2 scanner is the trans staying in 3rd and then locking the trans and not releasing pressure, effectively going into overdrive. There a a few blips on the graph that show the car attempted 4th and instantly shifted back to 3rd and kicked into overdrive.
Any ideas?
If anyone is curious why I havent sent to it to a specialist yet it's because I am not currently able to give the car up and shell out the money for a possible repair that's more of a nuisance at the moment.

which seems to do a good job of explaining the issue. This description seems to explain multiple possible reasons. I'm almost starting to wonder if it's cheaper to buy a rebuilt trans or just try to get this fixed.
