Weird problem
I have a 2006 lt3 Monte today as I heade out for work I pulled off normally about 4 minutes into my drive the car just stopped functioning while it was in drive I would hit the gas and hear the engine and watch the rpms shoot up still nothing, so I shifted into 2nd gear and the worked fine any ideas as to what this can be? Every other gear is fine neutral revers 1,2,3 all make the car move when I shift to D nothing what gives any ideas suggestions??????

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm, thats weird. Sounds kind of like you lost 4th gear, and its time for a new tranny/ rebuild. But the thing that kind of throws me off is the fact that shifting to a different gear makes it work. I would tend to think that even if you lost 4th gear, it would still move in D, just would never shift into 4th...
IDK, i'm just throwing a guess out there as to what it kinda sounds like.

106K, its still totally driveable but I have to be another gear outside of D and the acceleration at red lights and stop signs is really bad in 2nd gear but its driveable its really bizarre im thinking of trying a trans flush but hell who knows what can happen! Im thinking the trans itself iz fine why, every gear but drive works!!!! I dunno im really dumbfounded by it!

I am just curious...since the other gears work and you "should" be able to shift it into drive and it should work just not shift into 4th if 4th when out...I am wondering if it is not something electrial? Have you done anything to the car before this happened?

it also could be the sensor on the trans that tells it which selection you put it in as in 1 though drive. there is alto of sensors on a transmissions now a days it could be a sensor to a clouged jernal in the trans so it is hard to tell to be honest with you.

I had this same exact thing happen with my contuor. It turned out to be a seal in the trans. Now, Im not saying this is your problem so dont get worried. Remember, mine was a ford. It sounds more like there is somthing wrong with your gearshift lever. But, im not the one to say.
