Default Replacing Factory Speakers 2000 Monte Carlo

I'm looking to replace the door speakers in my 2000 Monte Carlo SS but I need some help.
I have found that the size I should get is 6.5" But I ran into some issues when I had first taken my door off to look at the speakers. I believe my passenger side speaker has a cracked cone but when I took the door off I couldn't get the speaker off. I know that there is a seal around the speaker plate, but after taking the 4 screws off of the woofer I couldn't seem to get it out. I wasn't willing to force it since I wasn't sure, but is there something on the back side of the speaker holding it in?

I have also read that aftermarket speakers sound bad with the factory amp, is that true? Unfortunately I cannot say the sound package that is on the car, but I know it has the "extended range speakers". The car has every package that was aavailable at the time, including the pace car package. Hope that helps, and any advice is appreciated.

The speaker a sticky seal on the back... just pull it off... carefully lol

the problem with aftermarket speakers is the factory ones are 2ohm and most if not all aftermarkets are 4ohm. so yull get reduced output. I have an 02 ss and I couldn't get 6.5 inch speakers to fit so I went with 5 .25. my factory speakers were totally shot so it sounds ok to me but OK is the key word. LOL

I'll second the weak sound, at least from my experience....previous owner had installed aftermarket front speakers with the factory amp....4 Ohm

Change the fade so it favors the front, raise the volume. Better than the buzzing I'm putting up with from my driver's door.

Default Need a little more help choosing speakers

Thanks for everyone's help! Just to clarify: the front speakers are in fact 6.5" but aftermarket ones will not fit? What size should I be getting if I want to use the original mounting holes on the car?
If I get aftermarket speakers do I get an aftermarket amp too?
Would I want to replace tweeters too? And how are those removed? I don't remember seeing any screws.
should I replace the amp? Any suggestions on criteria to meet when picking the amp?
Is it worth also replacing the rear deck? Like I said my car has the highest audio package that was available.

On a side note, does anyone know if the plastic barbs on the back side of the door trim can be purchased online somewhere? I can't seem to find them it I have the feel I should replace them since it will be the second time taking the trim off and I don't know how durable they are.

Thanks all!

Update and conclusion:

I understand the removal process of the door panel and speakers has been explained at least 20 times on this site already, but if this is the thread with all the answers then this might as well have the explanation here too.

To remove the door just follow this video:

The process is as simple as removing a few screws, sliding your hand behind the door panel, and pulling out making sure to not pull out the top edge by the window since there are 3 metal tabs that the panel hooks into. When the bottom and sides of the panel are popped off the panel lifts up off of the tabs and you remove the plugs on the back of the door (that part is easier said than done the first time if you are doing this alone).

Here is the link to some photos I took along the way:
https://drive.google.com/drive/folde...bL?usp=sharing

So I decided to get some Kicker 44KSC504 speakers. These are 5-1/4" 2-way car speakers. they have a tweeter built in and a resistance of 4 Ohms. And with all my searching and asking from here and other sources I opened the doors and pulled out the old speakers.

Interestingly I found that I had 4 Ohm speakers in my doors. Model #10299643 for the right, and #10299642 for the left. I was really happy to see that because I knew I would be getting the same if not better volume from my new speakers. I also found out that the right side speaker cone had separated from the surround, so the speaker coil rubs every time it moves in and out. I have included pictures of this in the linked folder.

The old speakers had the tweeter wires soldered to the terminals. I cut the wires and taped them up. I installed the new speakers from Crutchfield along with all included adapters. It wasn't the prettiest but I plan on opening the doors again to replace the clips on the back, and at that time I'll clean up the mounting adapter. I still wonder if I could have fit the 6.5 inch speakers.

In the folder that I linked I have also added some useful documents for others looking to do this too. I also added photos of the original spec sheet with options and pricing from my car if someone is looking to compare and see if they has the same audio package etc.

Thanks everyone for your help and input with this project! It's always great to have even just one more person there to answer some questions.
