Default 6.5" Door Speakers?

So I bought some rockford fosgate speakers to replace the blown speakers in my door. I know that the stock speakers are 6" but everyone I talk to seems to say a 6.5 will fit. Well I went to install the speakers and they werent close to fitting since they are round and not like the stock speakers. Has anyone else installed 6.5" in your doors and if so please let me know how you did it. Thanks.

I did, but I had to trim the speaker pod in order to do so.

ha ha thats funny. You are saying that you trimmed the black plastic that the speaker sits in? Did you just make it round or how did u go about trimming it?

its on 02 so 6th generation. It has a plastic housing that the speaker would sit in with 3 small bolts. I think that the housing is glued onto the door because i could not get it off. Also kind of speakers did u put in? Did you just cut it out so it would fit a round speaker instaed of the shape of the stock speaker?

Thats the problem- speaker sizes aren't well standardized. Even 6.5" speakers between aftermarket manufacturers are different sizes. Back when I used to work at CC, we could take the regular Kicker 6.5", and set the regular Polk 6.5" on top of it, and you could see the entire mounting flange for the Kicker speaker around it. Both boxes specifically said "6.5 inch", but why is there almost .5" difference in basket size? That always killed me.

Yep, I trimmed the speaker pod. I traced an outline of my speaker ring onto the pod so I could see where it needed to be trimmed and then I got my dremel and went to town.

The housing isn't glued in, it's got the 3 bolts like you noted, but it's also got a bead of rubbery gasket type material that kind of seals it to the door, you can just pry it off with your hands. You might have to replace the rubbery gasket material though, a bead of silicone would do just fine.

I put in a set of Rainbow DreamLine components, 6.5". I cut only where it was needed, see pics above.

If you really want to you can actually fit 8's in the door. I got a set of 8" dls nobeliums in my 6th gen. You have to build a new baffle though. It really made a huge difference in the midbass going to the 8's.
