Default Remote Start doesn't work

I have a 2006 Monte Carlo SS. My remote start doesn't work and even when my key is out of the ignition, it still chimes. I'm wondering if some how these 2 are connected.

check to see if you have any trouble codes thrown... cuz the remote start gets disabled and won't work if you've thrown a trouble code for something...

I'm having the same problem but I know it's because of a gas tank code. Code readers says that it's not sealing properly but I've changed the gas cap and still no luck. Is there anyway to get around the code thing to get it to work again? This is a big pain in the a** I swear...I keep disconnecting the battery for a bit to reset it the computer thing but it's too cold here in Michigan to keep doing that.

Should I just drop in an aftermarket unit?

I think my problem deals with the evap canister or something like that. Are these hard to change? Does any have any DIY info on these? The parts are fairly cheap off rockauto.com but I don't know much about them.

Im curious..do you have a fuel leak anywhere? do you smell gas? a friend had the same issue,,,turns out we had to change out the fuel pump.
we checked the fuel pressure thats what clued us on the pump issue..

But we didnt smell any gas...just had the idiot light on....once we dropped the tank and changed it out it was fine and the code diappeared.....

I am also in Michigan....

Mine has worked sporadically since I've had it. Like drock1979, the chime goes off without (or with) key in the ignition when only the drivers door is open.

On rare occasions the chime does not sound and I can get a remote start. Remote start will not work if there is a key in the ignition lock (and some other variables..), when the car thinks there is a key in it will not remote start.

Dealer checked, found no codes and wants to sell me a new lockset at $500. Could be the microswitch that the key hits and turns on/off the chime. Said dealer mentioned that locksmiths that replace the key can mess up the switch. Since my car shows signs of being a repo or lien sale and I only got one non-oem key that was freshly cut, I tend to agree.

Still would rather have $500+ in my pocked instead of remote start.

If I knew how to bypass the key-in-lock switch I would test it that way.

Nah, no fuel leak or smell, not at all. I can't remember the exact code but yes it deals with pressure in the tank. I did a little research and read that if you change the gas cap then that fixes that. However, that did work. Looking a little further, I saw that it could be the evap canister or something like that. I honestly, don't know about that one though.
