Default Plastic motor covers retain heat?

Wouldn't you think the plastic engine covers on our cars cause heat retention? Has anybody removed theirs permanently? Thoughts/insight?

When I got my Monte it had no engine cover. The Temp ran about half. With my cover my engine temp trends have not change!

I doubt it would make a difference with or without it.
