Default Opinons on Viper Car Alarms

Im interesting in the Viper Alarm systems and would like to have a opinon on personal preference. I've read that the 7901 has had trouble but has been reissued...But, at the same time I don't see it offered on the site. The start up option isn't really a issue, so the Viper 5002 comes into mind. I would like the fail start, and GPS tracking ability, along with proximity. I know if some one wants the car, they'll get, but If I get a couple more mins to aim at them Im happy

thanks.

I had a pretty standard Viper system (don't remember model because I didn't buy/install it) on my last car. I thought it was a very nice system. It had remote start built in as well and I could start that thing from a few blocks away. It was great.

I'm very much against aftermarket alarms / starters because the BCMs and Security systems are VERY VERY finicky with these cars.

Often more trouble than it's worth

I agree with Mike...Stay away from after market alarms and stuff. I put an after market alarm on my 89 truck, and after a while it stopped working, and then I could not start the truck. Plus a wire shorted the battery all the time. And that was on much older technology...

On the newer cars, I would not think about it....they have a plenty good factory alarm/ engine imobilizer.

what about an after market alarm on my 06 cobalt?
its an LS1 (base model) which means manual locks, windows and no alarm...

I've got a Viper with remote start and love it. Have a professional shop install it and ask for references. Try to do it yourself or save a few bucks and you'll have problems.

I have a Python 991/RS and it has been a total success. It was professionally installed and I couldn't be happier. I'm getting ready to upgrade the remote to the new HD one and all is right with the world.

I hope none of you get the Security / BCM issue that is common with these cars. The dealership is going to look right at that aftermarket alarm and not want to help you out.

Whether it's alarm related or not.

I haven't had any issues with the car's electronics/security/BCM, probably due to the alarm/RS being professionally installed. I recommend to anyone looking to have these kind of alarms install in their vehicles to take it to an authorized Directed dealer and have it installed correctly.
