Opinion Needed: Odd Tranny Issue
Howdy. I'm new here as of today, and I was brought here by an odd issue with my car...
It's a 97 Monte LS, about 120K miles. Regularly maintained, runs like a champ.
Was driving home, and I had to floor it to pull out in front of a semi on the freeway. No biggie, I do it a fair amount (not a lot, probably once every 2 or 3 weeks)
It downshifted once, and then a second time, as it usually does. Except on the second downshift, it felt as though it slipped into neutral, and the car redlined for a few seconds, hitting the rev limiter. I let off the gas for a second, pushed it down again, and the car continued normally.
Nothing like this has ever happened before, and it doesn't feel like there is anything wrong with the tranny otherwise. I assume it is just a fluke. Is random slippage into neutral even a thing? Is the tranny going bad?
Thanks for your help
