My brothers monte carlo (98 z34 I believe) is starting to act up. Basically when it is put in park the rpm's would drop and the car would cut off. well we took it to midas and they gave us a qoute of $1200. Then they said for $800 they could have the car running again but without all the maintenance (spelling?) which was oil change and some other things.

So we go pick up the car and now we can't drive it because not only does it cut off when in park but while driving and slowing down. The rpms will drop come back up over and over until it would drop too low and it would cut off. Midas said they aren't going to give us no refund cause what they did to the car was what was needed or "contributing factors" to the problem. We need some help because we can't just go around spending a almost a grand at every shop we take this too. The car is completely stock.

 

First mistake was you took it to Midas for that type of problem. Do you get a CEL? AutoZone will check for codes. Sounds like a sensor problem, maybe the MAF. Could be the IAC also if it has one. Use process of elimination. If all else fails, take it to a reputable dealer.
