Default No right brake when turning left?

Hi, I have a '99 Monte Carlo and I was pulled over last week (by a very nice cop) who told me my brake lights were going out when I was turning. I took it to the mechanic today who said my brake light assembly was out. He showed me the piece and I believe that's what he fixed, said whenever I was pressing on the brakes I didn't have lights. I get home and find out the right side is still not lighting up when you turn left. Is it suppose to do this?

When just the brake is pressed all 3 (left, right, and rear window) lights come on. If I indicate like I'm turning right the rear window and left stay on while the right flashes (indicating the turn). But when I go to indicate I'm turning left the rear window light stays on but the right side doesn't light up.

Could this be a simple loose wire or something to do with the turn signal assembly?

I believe it was the brake light switch.

in the steering column? if not it could be the multi function switch that is in the steering column. it is a very common problem in 5th gen Montes.

That I'm not sure about, the way he was talking it was at the back were the light actually is.

The mechanic screwed you over. It's pretty common in 5th gens to have their turn signal switch go out. It's in the column behind the steering wheel.

I have the same exact problem with my 98 monte. you need to replace your dimmer switch.. if you have someone sit in the car and hold on the brakes and wiggle your turn switch it should flicker on and off its a 60 dollar part at oriellys depending on if youhave radio control on your steering wheel if not its only 50
