I just added some info about testing the alarm by opening the trunk in my previous post. You can try that and see if it activates the alarm also.

Unless you have an '05 model or are like me with an '05 trunk lid - since they did away with the key holes in '05.

OK....I tried what Mike00LS and 03SSLE said, I waited for about a minute....no alarm sound.....No setting for it in the stereo........BUT, the panic (Horn) button makes an alarm go off...sooooo--does that mean that IF I swap the factory stereo with another factory stereo that came from a Monte that has an alarm, mine would THEN have an alarm? Thoughts???

True, but the OP's car is an '01.

I'm not sure what to think. The testing of the alarm by opening the door through an open window is what I read in another thread previously on the forum. Checking it by opening the trunk with the key is what is says in my owner manual. I was under the impression that if the key fob had the panic button it meant the car had a factory installed alarm. I don't know if swapping the stereo will give you an alarm or not. At this point I'd say your best bet would be to inquire with a dealership. You'll need to have them program your VIN into the stereo anyway if you swap them. Good luck, I hope you get it figured out.

Congrats on the monte purchase. Upgrading to the heated seats is a good plan and you will not regret it.

Thanks everyone for the info, as well as making me feel welcome! I'm glad to be a Monte Carlo owner. I will pick the brain of the dealership on the alarm system--although I have talked to them in the past and I have to say, they don't seem very knowledgable.....I have WAY more faith in this forum....."strength in numbers!"---I hope to get some pics on here some day soon......I still can't believe the buy--guy sold it to me for $1000 and all it needed was some tires and to be cleaned up! thought that was pretty darn good for a 2001

As long as the car is mechanically sound you got an excellent deal for the price! Dealerships can be hit or miss as far as being helpful. The one that is closest to me seems to be more concerned with selling you a new car than anything else. Their service and parts department employees are always grumpy. There's another dealership a bit further away, but they are very friendly, helpful and seem to have no problem answering questions. Needless to say they are where I go if I need parts or a question answered.

Default key fob help

Hi...

I bought a 2001 Monte Carlo LS today and it didn't come with key fobs, and i check the setting in the radio and there is no fob setting on my radio...Does this mean there is no way to add the key fob to it.
