Default Need help with electrical problem....

Hello,

I have a 2004 Monte Carlo LS, with 61,000 trouble-free miles, until now. Yesterday I noticed some strange, electrical popping noises coming through my speakers. Then, my gauges seem to randomly quit working and come back on. The seat belt and air bag light would flash off and on for a few seconds as well. Message center display would show, security, change oil, etc...

Thinking my alternator was going bad, I pulled it off and took it to a reputable auto electric repair shop. According to them, it is fine. I put the alternator back on, and started it up. Within a few minutes, the same thing started happening.

I'm at a loss. Has anybody had a similar problem or have any ideas??

Oh, I do NOT have any aftermarket stereo equipment or other electrical accessories.

Thanks.

Check your ground wire and battery cables in general. I had something similar happen to me and it was the battery cable.

X2 on the ground cable. Same problem here! Try changing the ground cable to a heavier gauge and cleaning the metal on which it's screwed on. Also, check to make sure you other grounds around the engine bay are secured.

A friend of mine had a similar problem, turned out to be a bad ground wire. I think the guys above are on to something
