Default Mobil 1 E.P. Oil and Onstar's Remote Diagnostics

I got my Onstar remote diagnostic monthly report the other day. It told me that my oil life was still as 62% life. The car has 35,000on it, with the last oil change at 24,000, and a filter change at 30,000. That's 11,000 miles on this oil change.Onstar tells me that it should be good to 42,500 mi. That'spushing 20,000 on an oil change.I'm going change it next week at 36,000 anyway. I feel 12,000 on my oil is enough, even thoMobil says 15,000 for this Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5-30 oil. I rotate my tires every6,000, also. Religiously!
What kind of oil life is everyone else getting from this stuff, or am I the only one getting tremendous oil life? I (we) have logged over 500,000 mi on synthetic oils. I'm a believer in it. My opinion- petroleum motor oil was good 100 years ago, but with "better living thru chemistry", I believe in 21st century lubrication.
What does everyone think about this? What do you use? How many miles on your oil changes?

I use a blend of the regular stuff and synthetic. I think it's castrol sytec blend or something like that. I never go more than 3000 miles on an oil change though because I don't like risking the oil breaking down. I think it's better to be safe and spend a little extra money andchange my oil more often than have to buy a engine at 60,000 miles.

I've logged over 500,000mi on synthetics.I sold my'01SS LE with116,000mi on it with no engine problems. My opinion is you wouldn't be changing engines at 60,000mi if you used higher quality lubricants. Nobody that I know of has ever had any engine lube failures on synthetic oil, only with crap oil, not changing oil, or just general neglect. A co-worker spun a bearing in his Cavalier last fall and broke the crank. He changed his oil frequently, but that didn't stop his engine from breaking.
I feel that regular oil is broke down at about 1,000-2000mi. Look at the oil on your dipstick. By 2000mi, it looks like crap, and feels that way, too. Synthetics don't look or feel the same to me. They stay clear MUCH longer, and NEVER turns black!

Anyone else have similar Onstar reports?

i dont have onstar but i can say i have had the valve covers off on my car (at the dealer) and looked in to the motor it was real clean for a car with 30,000 on it . even teh Mech. at the time was impressed at it.

he showed me a motor that had 15,000 miles on it that had blowen the head gasket. the internals of it look like it had 150,000 on it.
but he said they hadent changed the oil like they should and only had three for thier records threw them.
and were usign the cheapest oil they could find etc...

yeah i have mobil 1 in my car since the first day i drove it home. it had less then 200miles on it when i changed it over. wanted to give it just enough time to break in with the other oil and also get any shavings etc. out of the motor that might be in it. then it was changed over and a better filter was used also.

the valcover was off thanks to the fool working on the car that droped a bolt down in to while he was putting the engin cover on to it. so he had ot take the front cover off to get it back out. I refused to let them move it till it was out of the motor. he wanted to start it to make sure it was in there. (yeah they are brilant over here belive me whan i say they are the best mech. in the G.M. world)
needls o say that went over like a Lead filled ballon. and he was dealing with it in the middel of the shop floor for a hour LOL

Sorry about your clumsy tech. I put Mobil 1 EP in immediately, also. at 4,800mi. Had it almost a year now. 32-33,000mi this year.
