Mobil 1 Oil Filler Cap
I got 2 new Mobil 1 oil filler caps today, 5-W30, for my Intimidator SS and my wife's Z-71.
They are a Corvette item, and are from an LS-1 engine, and is made by AC Delco. List price was $11.00, and I paid $10.00. Here is the part# for those interested in putting one on there car: GM# 12555685.

Nice. I remember seeing the Mobil 1 commercials that mentioned that all the new Corvettes come off the assembly line with Mobil 1. Didn't know they made the oil filler caps like that though.

Wish I could cough up the 10 bones for it..... Kinda bad when I'm willing to do that and there is someone in another country screaming "Your buying an oil cap that you already have and that 10 bucks would feed my family for a week."

Hey Wayne, I know you changed to Mobil One... Did you ever do a writeup on how to do it? I am ready for a new oil change, and am contemplating this weekend doing the changeover...

RE: Mobil 1 Oil Filler Cap
I've been running Mobil ! since I got this car 2 years ago (almost 65,000 miles). I (we) have logged 600,000 miles on Synthetic oils, including Valvoline, Royal Purple, and most of it on Mobil 1. 600,000 miles, and we've never opened a valve cover or oil pan. Looking in the oil filler car it looks like a new engine in there.
I bought some Mobil 1 at Meijers in a 5 qt jug yesterday at $22.32, and that's cheaper than Wally World!
For those switching over to synthetic oils: Use a GOOD engine flush and folloe the directions to a TEE!. I think I used Valvoline last time, but I honestly don't remember. I was going 12,000 miles on an oil change, and changing the filter and rotating the tires every 6,000 miles. That was with Mobil 1 Extended Performance oil, but I'm switching to regular Mobil 1, or maybe back to Royal purple if I can confirm that it meets the GM4718M spec. Their technical sales rep' couldn't or didn't confirm this with me.
Anyway, I'm going to follow the recommendation in the owners manual of LadyT's new Solstice GXP, and change the oil at 5,000 mile intervals in it, and 6,000 miles in the Intimidator SS, using regular Mobil 1 5w30.
We have over 180,000 miles on LadyT's '99 Z71, and most all of it has been at 12,000 changes. Next change is due at 200K miles!
I see no reason to change our routine on this LS-1 engine, as it isn't boosted.
Mobil 1 is cheap, and as far as I'm concerned, my oil filler cap says what I'm using, on 3 of our vehicles, and that's what's in all 5 of the vehicles I service.

RE: Mobil 1 Oil Filler Cap
you mean they make a fluid called engine flush?
Anyways, thanks so much for a great write-up Wayne. I will probably end up doing that this weekend... And Staying Mobile 1... because I am tired of changing my oil every 3000 miles... =)

Like I said before, look for Mobil 1 or any other acceptable oil in a 5 qt jug and save some money. I always figure that ANY bottle costs about $1 to produce and sell, no matter what size. That's $5 in plastic for an oil change with 1 qt bottles!

That would be sweet for someone chroming out their engine and not going with a cheesy total chrome cover.
