Default Lighter

My lighter does work in my car, but I need that 12v plug to put some neon lights in my car. Does anyone know what the problem could be? I thought it might be a fuse but Iunno, I have a 98 monte carlo ls, please help.

The wording of your Post is confusing to me. The Lighter works ... or, ... does not? If it works you should be able to get a Cigarette Lighter Style Power Tap at Radio Shack to draw 12 Volts from the Cigarette Lighter.

Most problems associated with drawing power from the Cigarette Lighter are right inside the Power Tap. Most Power Taps come with an Internal Fuse. Most are fused for Low-low Amps. Electronic accessories like Radar Detectors and GPS Devices which need next to NO Amps to power. If your lighting is drawing more than 2 Amps, you might have Blown the Internal Fuse in the Power Tap which is Plugging into the High Amp output at the Cigarette Lighter.

Test your lights with a jumper off the Battery.
If your lights don't light; check the fuse in the Power tap, that is, IF you are using one.

I only know where the Fuses are on MY Monte. I have them under the Hood on the Passenger Side and behind Panels on the Left and Right Side of the Dash.

Somebody with a Monte like yours will have to Vector you in on your Fuse Panels.
