update. I got the key to turn had to move it up and down and tap it sideways. moved it in my shop and took the dash cover off and took the radio out. my gm bud came over and released the cyl. took a key with him and coded a new cyl. and came back and put it in and did the programing. cost me 170.00 and I bought him a case of his favorite brew. the tumblers had broke [made in mexico] I think I got lucky knowing a gm mech. so I hope that problem is gone for awhile.

Did you just go ahead and replace the passlock sensor too because you can't buy an ignition cylinder without the sensor?

I will have to ask my gm bud to be sure but i would hope he knows to replace the passlock too. I had to work while he fixed mine. he said it took about 30 mins. to program it would have taken about 10 mins. if he had remembered to bring his scan tool. it works for now!!

Hmm...usually you don't need to program passlock sensors with a scanner. The theftlock system should learn the new sensor by itself. But I don't know.

the old parts he left were the cyl. and a tube about 3-4 ins. long that holds the cyl. there is an elecrtical connector on the end of the tube. is that the passlock? I know this is a new topic but it seems when gm put the key back in the dash this setup has way more problems than the coulum lock switch. you're right he did say it would relearn the new sensor but it would be quicker with a scanner.

yeah. That's the passlock sensor. If he used a tech II device, it shouldn't take 10 minutes because it takes 10 minutes with the system itself. Yeah the dash systems are more troublesome.
