Key FOB Quit Working '01 Impala
I have a friend whose key FOB quit working, and she's been told it's not the battery. Anyone got any ideas as to what might be the problem???
The only thing I can think of is that the contacts inside the FOB are either broke or dirty.
Is there anything in the car that could be wrong?
2nd, isn't there an easy way to re-program an FOB from those years? Seems like I've done it, but that was LAST WEEK, & I can't remember that long ago! LOL! You hold 2 buttons at the same time or something like that. I have an extra I was going to give her, IF we can get it to work.

I don't know about reprograming it honestly...I think you're on the right track with holding down two buttons, but its been a while since I did it too. LOL
As for the remote not working, I would say its probably a broken contact inside the FOB. Pop it open and check them out, if you see one that is broken, just solder it back.

From the Owner's Manual:
Resynchronization
After you have changed the battery in your transmitter,
you will need to resynchronize the transmitter. To do
this, press the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on the
transmitter at the same time and hold for approximately
seven seconds or until one brief horn chirp is heard.

I am wary of the, "she was told it was not the battery"...who told her, I would definitely start with changing the battery again in person and give it another go with the instructions above...
