What does the star look like? The star mark (inside a triangle) on the back of my fob looks original to the fob though, however if the whole fob was replaced that would be correct then. My range is pretty good so I'm assuming mine has the fix. Would also explain my pillar trim piece.

Wonder what a dealer charges to repair that? Thats BS and should have been a recall.
The one near me quoted me $600 a month ago. I sourced the parts on ebay for $100 total.

$600 seems pretty high, I was quoted like 80-100 for the new parts and then 50 or so for the reprogramming.

I don't have the star, which makes sense bc I have never had it worked on and only owner. However maybe at some point gm realized they f'd up? and the ones with the star came factory and work better? A possibility but idk.

Far as I remember, the TSB fix didn't come out until late 2007, and any 7th gen Monte made before 3/1/07 will need it done. Not sure about the LS models, I can't remember if the extended range remote start was standard on those. I know it was on the LT and up. We'd need to ask someone with an '07 manufactured after 3/1/07 if their fob has a star on the back, but I'm pretty sure none manufactured before that date will have the star unless the car was fixed and given new fobs.
