Idle timing problem

Idle timing problem
I'm pretty sure it's my idle timing. I have an '02 MC LS, it's a great car, but one thing that bugs me is when in reverse or in drive on an incline, it will roll as soon as I let off the brake, making it hard not to gun it out of a downsloped parking space or slamming into that back of someone at an inclined stop sign. I wanted to know if there was a fix for this or if this was just common with all monte carlos. Thanks!

RE: Idle timing problem
Alot of cars do that. Most 4cyl cars do that because they lack enough torque to keep it from rolling backward. If your car is idling low then that would cause your car to roll backward. I know my 3.4L in my z34 idles at 1000 rpms when warm all the time and it never rolls backward. I dont know what the 3400 is supposed to idle at by 600 seems a little low to me. Does your car seem to idle rough at 600 or does it idle smooth. If it idles smooth then it probably is fine. You have to remember that your car is a heavy car with a small, low powered engine so you may just have to live with the problem. If you have problems getting started, just use two feet, one on the brake one on the gas. Keep the brake pedal pressed and start pressing the gas lightly enough to get your rpms up to about 1000 and let out the brake slowly.

RE: Idle timing problem
its normal, almost all automatic transmissions will allow this to happen, varies by how much angle you are on, and the vehicle.
if you were able to idle it up enough to hold on an incline the car would idle down the road at 30mph.
if you were able to idle it up enough to hold on an incline the car would idle down the road at 30mph.
