Can be any list of items:
- Vac leak
- Old plugs
- bad sensor
etc.
If you don't have a CEL on, then I would check for vac leaks and then plugs next.

does it pulsate when you are driving and let off the gas? this could also be a sign of a dirty MAF. Worth the $8 for a csn of MAF cleaner (only use specified cleaner for the MAF or you will probably ruin it, as it is just a piece of wire with what looks like a small spring coil in the middle and is very fragile) I just replaced mine as it wasn't working properly, but the CEL light did come on in my car. All you need is a safety torx one size smaller than the T-15 and honestly about 10 minutes of your time to clean it. It wouldn't hurt to do it and may resolve your issue, while you are doing that check for any leaks along the intake hoses that you have access to (by that I mean any vacuum lines you see while the engine cover is off) look for any wear and tear(s)
