thanks everyone for the info...it's very helpful...the problem with flood insurance is that it only covers my hot water heater, and boiler...if i get additional flood insurance, it would only cover a washer and dryer...the government/fima really only wants boilers and heaters in the basement...the first flood i had, 3 years ago, i lost everything...furniture, a freezer box full of food, washer dryer, drywall, etc...i was only covered for the boiler and water heater...i asked what i could do to extend the coverage and i was told i would only be covered for washer/dryer and nothing else...ever...so i won't be covered for the car at all...that's for sure...i currently only have liability on the car because i'm in the process of fixing it up...until then, i didn't want to pay for additional insurance for a car i wasn't using...i guess i made a mistake with that one...one bit of good news though...i changed all the fuses in the box, dried it out, sprayed it with some electronic cleaner and dried it again...now it seems all electronics work...i have the computer and chips on order, so hopefully it will start after that...i also changed the oil...i guess i'll know more after i get the ECM and chips...if it still doesn't start, i think i'll convert to carb...i'm keeping my fingers crossed...but with the fact that the electronics work, i'm so happy...small miracles....

Hope you can get your Monte back up an running ok..
I sold a 1965 Nova to a guy who put it in a lake all the way under water over night .. He had a diver hook up to pull it out he took the seats & stuff out . Drained the gas tank , rear ead ,engine oil, repacked the front bearings , it turned out ok for him..

it will give you a chance to remove the interior and every thing in the cabon and go from there. what i would do is find a apolstery shop and have them re do your seats and then bring the car down for them to do the floor and the in side of the roof. then you will know it is sound there. before that when you have the interior out of it go threw the wires and see if there is any damage from water if there is replace the wires. it is the most expencive thing to do but in the long run it pays off. i am do ing the same to my mercury cougar right now. i already finished the electrical finished the interior now the tutch ups on body and engine.sadly it is the 95 model but it is worth it. i see my montey the same way. like you see yours. it will take time when you are finished you will be happy when you take your time

Back in July of 2006, my county had huge rains and flooding situations (nothing persay to rival the recent Sandy damage on the east coast, but it did take out a fairly new apartment complex), my basement flooded. Now in my case, my flooding was a result of sewage back up (which happened to a LOT of people around me). I had flood insurance with State Farm (let me rephrase, I call it "Flood Insurance", they probably have a different term). It cover washer, dryer, freezer, furnace, finished walls, ceilings, flooring. It did NOT cover personal property (like big screen TVs, stereos, computers, ect). For me, it all worked out, they wrote me a nice check, with the help of friends and family, we gutted that basement and rebuilt it. Now State Farm had an EXTRA policy that I had added which DOES cover personal property.
It is probably a matter of the insurnace company and maybe even your agent to ensure you have the right coverage.

During that 2006 "flooding", that rule of thumb was applied to a lot of cars. I understand that is the banch mark for how high the water can be before impacting the more expensive parts of the electronics.

Default Not letting Sandy win.....

again, thanks everyone for your best wishes...things are coming along with the house...finally got hot water...just waiting for heat...at least it's not freezing yet...also made some progress with the monte...i decided to continue with working on it...so i got a remanf starter...only 45 bucks...i'm working on changing that but the exhaust is in the way...i drained the radiator and i'm gonna change the fluid...removed the battery cable and i'm gonna change that...tomorrow i'm looking for a tube of some kind to try and siphen out the gas just in case water got in there...once i get in the starter, i'll try and crank it to see if it will at least crank...i should get the new ECM this week...i'll install that and hopefully it will start up and run...one question, i got the ECM used of course...and i got new chips for inside...do i need to take it to the dealer to get programed?...should it be plug and play?...thanks again everyone....
