Default High coolant tempiture light

So ontop of the other things that have been going wrong with my monte, the "High coolant Tempiture" light came on and i see my temp gage was in the red. At that moment i was sitting in the parking lot at my work. On my way home the light didnt turn on but the temp gage got near red but went back down as i drove.
Could it be the fan?
Im not sure what to look for.

Change your thermostat and bleed the system.

For the sake of dexcool being dexcool, I would fully flush the coolant as well as change the thermostat.

I 100% agree with Chibi!

You may also want to check if you have a coolant leak somewhere as well.
Air in the system can cause an inaccurate reading on the temp guage. An old and sticking T-stat can also cause a high temp reading.
And regardless of DexCool or the good ol' green stuff, it all need changed periodically to ensure crud is not building in the system and the chemical properties are still good.

Remember, at some point ALL fluids in the car should be changed, not just your oil.
