Hey everyone, I will post a picture of what I think is the culprit below. Here is my issue. Recently my monte has not been going into park when I shift it to do so. It does not indicate that the shifter is in park on the cluster as well. I have to turn off the vehicle in neutral, and I am able to engage the shifter into park. E brake and vehicle is chucked. I removed the center console, shifter bushing and cable seem fine as well as the other end of the cable. I think my culprit is a torn Transmission park lock cable, as the picture will show the sheathing is torn. I cant find these anywhere, extensive searching as I am in the parts business, junk yards, car-part you name it, but I do have a pick n pull 02 monte that I can take this from if need be. Now, I also am confused as to how to remove this from the donor monte. I see the gromet in the engine bay the runs into the firewall/cabin. I have pulled back the carpet and I still cant see the gromet with the cable running into the shifter that I need (console removed). It looks as though it runs behind the heater box, and the whole dash would have to be removed! Please tell me this is not the case, and this cable it a 2 piece design. Im lost and need help! I just finished my extensive tvs2300 build, and would not like to start off the car season like this.
Thanks in advance-zack!
Torn sheathing due to age and heat, is this the reason?
I would suggest you purchase a service manual for the car get the GM one There is usually 2 volumes of this and then you need to look it up in there.
Another way to find out is at the U-pick it remove the one there and that is the best way to find out how it works. Service manual on ebay.
already have haynes manual. nothing stated in it. Ill look out for the gm one, but pulling it out of the donor is the way Im going currently just at a pause
