help with egr please
Hello everyone first post here my question for you all if you could offer some insight id appreciate it is I just recently bought an 84 monte with the 5.0 in it and was looking to put on some aftermarket headers my only issue is im not sure what to do with the smog pump and the egr as they run through the stock exhaust manifolds and there is no where to run them through the aftermarket headers I picked up, so do I just delete everything? If so should I expect any issues with the carb? Thank you all in advanced.

First of all, welcome to the forum and congrats on the 84!!!
I don't have my Chiltons manual right here in front of me so I am not just going to fire off some random information.
I hope Moderator David (STUMPMI) comes on this morning because he will be able to provide you with much much more wisdom that I could ever give.

The 305's are emission built purposely for emission standards..
Low compression air pumps in other words..
you can eliminate the smog pump and cap off the egr/vacuum diaphragm.
Without any residual effects. I will however recommend... Full exhaust with tail pipes to keep up the back pressure. I would also recommend adding an H or X pipe connector.
does it have a 2 or 4 bbl?
Hope this helps...

When you say 5.0 you mean a 305?

Thank you for your help and yes it is the 305 and also it is currently just the stock 4 bbl which is what had me worried with the line coming from the air pump running into the carb I was worried that deleting all of it would cause me to choke the carb. Thanks for the help
