Default help ! 2003 monte carlo CVC ?

Driving car down the road heard noise like front spoiler came off (it didnt)
car slowed now wont go forward you can feel it go into gear but no go. put it in reverese and backed it home heard slight clicking noise. Any ideas ? I did replace all the wheel hubs about 8 months ago (timkin bearings) they should be good to go.

And no I didnt hit anything or anything is caught in wheel looks clear.

I never heard a clicking sound can a CVC joint go out and cause this ?

Yes, a cvc joint can cause that. Interesting it only goes in reverse though. Are the wheels pointing in the same direction? If not, could be a tie rod. Could be an axle, which is replaced when replacing the cvc joint.

Hope some of that helps.

First thing to check, your calipers. I've known people who have have a bolt fall out of the caliper and driving forward the caliper tips back and slams into the rim and wedging so the car does not go forward. But it will go in reverse (and could possibly reseat on the rotor to look like nothing is wrong).
It will also make noises (clicking, smacking, whatever because it's loose and "floating"). You should have 2 bolts on the bracket to the spindle and 2 bolts on the caliper.
PER THE GM SHOP BOOK the bolts holding the bracket to the spindle MUST have Thread Locker applied. LocTite would also work. I had one bolt go missing on my caliper, I then went around and applied red LocTite to all of them (and yes, I can still remove them with hand tools, not heat needed).

Thumbs up The_Maniac you are correct

That is what had happened just as you said. I went to the chevy store and picked up a bolt that was missing and it had loctite already on it. I think I will check the other side also thanks for you input.

Sadly, this is an all too common problem (not on the Montes, the design of that calipers with those brackets). I was shocked to see the thread locker requirement (as I never used it on my calipers). But, I know why it's needed. Live and learn.

Glad I could help solver your mystery
