I replaced my vent valve on saturday. Not very hard at all. I did compare the resistance between the two and not much difference. The new valve was 19.7 and the old valve was 21.3. Maybe the old one had a intermitting problem. Well, I guess I will know in a few days. I'll keep you posted. Thanks for all the help.

Well I changed the vent valve, and the check engine light came back on after three days. But now I have a P0442 code instead on the common P0440. That is a small leak found. So my only thought is that it has something to do back by the vent valve. Maybe the hose, I might try to cut the end off, to make a tighter fit. I dont know at this point.

I changed the surge solenoid, three gas caps, now the vent valve. I seen where people talked about changing orings on the hoses. How many orings? Which ones?

Any help would be greatfull.

There is a fitting on the back of the motor that I leaned into changing my plugs. That if you mess with it you can get gas to leak out of it. Is that normal.

I think I will have to replace my vent valve as well in my '06 MC Flex. I just took my car to AutoZone to see which code it was and these rude guy said it was P0455. He didn't even want to answer any questions I had, just said take it to the shop. NO! I'll figure it out because they aren't about to ream me on prices.

Anyway, I can't smell any gas or hear any vacuum sounds. I can't wait to get it fixed though because it sucks that this thing is deactivating my remote starter. It's cold her in Michigan lol.

I posted a generic list of ALL the OBD II trouble codes at the top of this sub-forum. Did you check that list?
From that list:
DTC P0455 Evaporative Emission (EVAP) System Leak Detected

Yea, I've looked at so many of those OBD codes. But yes, I have checked the one for P0455.

Maybe someone can help me with this as well.

For the past few months, every so often I'll pull a P0440 or P0455. It varies. I tighten my gas cap and go on my way, and it disappears on its own. Then it must be that you just don't tighten the gas cap enough after filling up, right? Well, perhaps, but I click it way past the recommended 3 clicks, and the code typically shows up anywhere between full and 1/4 of a tank. There doesn't appear to be any pattern whatsoever.

No gas mileage seems to be lost
No gas is dripping.

However whenever I fill up the car, I get an unusually strong smell of gas, usually for a day or two even after driving. It's only inside the car. The code never shows up when this happens, it's always random. I have no rough idling, either.

What the eff is the issue? It doesn't appear to be causing any harm whatsoever, I just want to know why it happens.

There is a canister near the gas tank that most likely went bad.
