Default Fuel Filter location

I am planing on doing a fuel filter replacment on my 96 Monte Carlo LS 3.1L. I was wondering where it is located on these cars, and any other tips on replacing it? Thanks

Don't use cresant wrenchs, there is a special wrench to use that you can pic up at Sears. It looks like a box end but with the very end line taken out. It holds much better and is great for working on general plumbing.

It is located by the gas tank. Just look at the gas tank and you will find some metal lines running toward the front on the drivers side. The filter is about 5 inches long and about 2 inches in diameter. One side has a quick connect clip and the other has the side you unscrew. You can use a cresant wrench on the fuel filter to hold it steady, but use the other wrench for the turning.

Thanks, I just went outside and located it. Looks to be very simple.

To hold the fuel filter, use 3/4. For the fuel line side, use 5/8.

Should I be worried about the extra fuel that will come out of the lines when i pull them off?

Yeah, don't look up at it. Wear goggles and it doesn't hurt to wear long plastic gloves. I leaned to the side when I did my truck. Really there isn't much that comes out.

I would buy a Haynes Manual if you have never done this before as there may be additional steps. It is worth the $18 to pick one up.

I just finished it, very easy. Took maybe 15 min and I was lazy and didn't jack it up. Still has a slight hesitation at lower RPM's that I can't figure out. I though it was the fuel filter or the Cat. It seems to run a lot better with the new fuel filter but not perfect. No CEL's, so I don't think its a misfire. I may look into replacing the cat next. Thanks for the help.

Check to see if the throttle body is clean. For less then five bucks you can pick up a can of carb/throttle body cleaner. It is worth to clean this out every 25K miles or so. It also may save you some big bucks changing out the Cat!
