Default "Service Traction" Light

My Wife has a 2002 Monte Carlo (3.8L) and the "Service Traction" light comes on now and then. I've searched the web and basically what I've found out is that no one knows why this is happening.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Lyman

Best bet would be to go to the dealership and have them look at it.

When does it happen? Is there a trend?

My service dept. told me there are several TSB's.

Hmm.. My guess is its and ABS sensor knocking on deaths door. I would even take a stab at saying its at the front sensors. Most likely a pinched wire from the hub to the harness somewhere. Just a guess tho.

Greetings,

My apologies to everyone for not getting back sooner; the replies are much appreciated!

In conversation with my Wife, 'I' misunderstood her. Right. Anyway, this happened once when she was cutting the wheel while backing into a parking space.

Thanks,

Lyman

It just might have been a fluke then. Does it still come up?

It hasn't yet. Hopefully it won't again. The vehicle is pushing 100K so we'll see....

I've been experiencing the same problem with my 2001 Monte Carlo. Long story short, I had a lot of problems with the traction system trying to engage even when there was no wheel slip. It usually only did it when it was wet outside. It got progressively worse and now the system is completely shut off. Bad thing about it is, it shuts off traction and ABS. I took it to the garage and they told me it was a speed/traction sensor, which is located in the hub, meaning I have to replace the whole thing. Hope this helped you out.
