Fans confusion
I have searched this topic on this site and a few others, read 20 or more posts and each seems to contridict the other.
Simple question...when is the drivers side electric fan supposed to engage.
I have yet to see mine on at all, my passenger side seems to be on alot.
I know to check relays, fuses and voltage at fan motor but i dont want to trouble shoot if there is no problem..
please advise!

Speaking of the fans and temps when they kick on, I have an 06 LT that I have yet to see the temp gague go over the 1/2 way mark.. It gets to the 1/2 point, and has never gone above it.. Does that sound normal?? I live in Western New York, so it doesn't get too hot here, but when we do have hot days, I end up stuck in traffic with the AC on.. In other cars, I have seen the temp gague go up and then back down after a bit, but this one seems different.
Could I just have a kick *** cooling system in my car or does it sound like something is blocking the needle from going past the 1/2 way point, no matter the temp?

The fan will turn on at 212°F
You thermostat opens to cool the engine at 195°F, which helps keep it down. It's basically an emergency type fan. If the engine finds itself getting too hot.

In my 95 it is the #1 fan, left side, that runs first. It turns on whenever the Air Conditioning is truned on. The right side comes on as others said when water reaches a certain temperatrue. With the air off the #1 comes on when the water heats up.
I recently had problems with the relays not working and causing the #2 fan not to work thus putting the car in an over heat conditions. Some judicious wiggling of relays and a thump cleaned the connections and things now work.
Does the car over heat?

No but it seems to stay between 185 and 200 when freeway driving but 210 to 220 in drive thru lane ideling for 5- 10 minutes. When i hear a fan kick on its Always the passenger side and temp will come down quickly to 200ish. Ive never seen the drivers side run. Ill thro battery voltage to it tomoro and see what happens.

I just bought the car 2 weeks ago so I dont know the status of the tstat.
I was hpoing the drivers fan never coming on was the problem...tstat did not occur to me.
Does that sound like the symptoms of a faulty tstat?

if your car is getting hotter than the thermostat's temperature setting, then I would suspect the thermostat.
Stock they are 195°. I would suspect it, but it's only a $5 fix haha
