Default Fan Staying on...

Hey Guys,

This is my first post on this site, all of my questions so far have been answered by simply searching the forums.

I have a 2002 Monte Carlo SS 3.8 w/ 120,xxx miles. Modifications include Vogtland lowering springs, 20in Akuza Creeping wheels, and a Viper Remote Start, 6000K HID Kit.

This morning my remote start worked fine, but when I got to work I noticed my fan was still running when I was exiting the car. It continued to run and would not shut itself off. I also noticed my remote start was not working anymore. I replaced the thermostat at lunch and that did nothing. Any ideas why my fan continues to run, and is there a relation with my remote start?

Thanks in advance for taking time to read.
Mike

I have a problem with mine sometimes where the fan runs for like 2 mins after I shut it off but when it does my temp sensor stops working and also the air condition wont work. I just take postive off battery for about 10 mins and she works fine after that until it does it again. ive change the temp sensor but that didnt solve it.

The car doesn't know the temperature of engine, so it's defaulting to a fail-safe mode of leaving the fans on for 2-3 minutes on key off.

I would check the temp sensor.

Do you have any CELs?

The Check Engine has always been on in my car, the only code that comes up is a Mass Air Sensor? Today I started to hear a light ticking by the steering column while the car is running and while off. My Security light came on for about 10 min and went off, my battery light did the same. Possibly a bad BCM? Ignition Switch?

So went out this morning to start my car and it would not start, lights flashing, no power windows, thumping from the speakers. The battery is new as of last month, I am installing a new ignition switch tom, but now I am thinking BCM....

Typically a CEL will prevent remote start from working.

Yes but my remote start was installed while CEL was on and have never had a problem with it thus far. Will be replacing ignition switch tom. morning, will let you know if it does the trick.

I installed the Ignition Switch this morning, and it seems to have fixed most of my problems. My fan no longer runs while car is off. Message board isn't going crazy. Battery is holding charge. My temp guage even started working...Remote start is still not working, so now I will check into that. Just wanted to post this in case someone else has the same problem. Pretty easy job.

Mine always did goofy stuff like that until one day the ignition switch finally went bad. Left me stranded 45 min from home. Glad you caught it.
