Default Electronic brake control [ebcm]

Well GM tells me me electronic brake control module is giving me my abs/trac light. Has anyone replace one? GM also tells me it has to be programmed is this true? The car is a 2003 SS. Where is the best place to purchase it? I found it on GM parts direct for around $400 dooars. I have found several rebuiders with lifetime warranties for good prices. Thanks

I know this is an old thread but maybe this could help someone who is going through this problem like myself. how to replace it is compliments of Autozone.com

Removal & Installation

Locate the EBCM/EBTCM under the instrument panel, to the left of the steering column.
Release the EBCM/EBTCM from its bracket using the pressure tabs.
Detach the electrical harness and remove the EBCM/EBTCM from the vehicle.
Installation is the reverse of the removal process. Verify that all electrical connections are secure.

Fig. The Anti-lock Brake System EBCM (or EBTCM) is located under the steering column, on the left side

Disconnect the negative battery cable.
Detach the electrical connection.
Unfasten the retainer on the bracket, then slide the relay off the bracket.

To install:

Slide the relay onto the bracket and make sure the retainer locks the relay to the bracket. Fasten the retainer.
Attach the electrical connection.
Connect the negative battery cable.

Sorry I don't know how to add photos to indept details on how to uninstall/install EBCM!
