Default E85 Fuel on 3.5 V-6

Anyone use it yet... How does it affect the performance of the fuel injectors in the long term?

Any negatives on using it? 06 MC comes with a $1,000.00 E85 Fuel Card.

I am not sure about the 3.5L on E85, but I have noticed a significant decrease in MPG's since they have added the 10% ethanol to regular fuel.

The FFV motors have a sensor in the fuel tank which constantly monitor the ethanol content of the fuel. this sensor then adjusts PCM calibrations to work with the blend concentrations. You should not see any drop in fuel economy. Also, when adding E85 into a tank of normal fuel. you should drive the car for aprox. 7 miles before shut down. this will allow the new calibrations to be perfected by the PCM. Failure to do this may result in a check engine light.

Also... it has 0 negative impact on fuel injectors and other components. they are all designed to work with E85 seamlessly.

A Chevrolet Technical Bulletin on E85 fuel (Document 1572801) says: "E85 has less energy per gallon than gasoline, so you will need to refill your fuel tank more often when using E85 than when you are using gasoline." You will see a drop in fuel economy when using E85.

I have seen no such TSB. That is not to say one does not exsist... but I have not seen or heard that situation.

The following is from a paper I had to write for school:
"Another drawback is the fact that E85 has the energy equivalent of 80,000 BTU, while gasoline has the equivalent of 125,000 BTU. This means you must have 1 ½ gallons of E85 to equal 1 gallon of gas, thus getting worse gas mileage than gas does. However, E85 does produce more horsepower compared to an equal amount of gasoline."

And E85 is produced in the US without Foreign Oil. I could live with the drop in MPG....

4 Blocks from my house it costs 2.88 a gal. but it is a Marathon Station.

no such thing as e85 around here where i live but i have looked at the stickers on some of the newer vehicles and they state a lower fuel economy for the e85 fuel
