Default Does all this coolant on the ground look familiar

So when I first bought my 2004 Monte and got it home I had to add about a jug and a half of coolant to the radiator and reservoir. Four days after that I came home and parked in the driveway. I go in the house and come back out after 10 minutes and a bunch of coolant is on the ground on the front drivers side corner of the car. I've read about some Montes having a mystery coolant leak that's hard to pin point where it's coming from. The coolant level in the radiator and reservoir are still topped off, go figure. Since I wasn't able to see where it came from I came here to see if this has happened to someone else before.

Lol that DOES look familiar! I get the same leak when I can only assume my car is mad at me. I have never found where it leaks from but the thing is, it only leaks every few months and its been happening for over a year and its just so infrequently that I dont care enough to fix it. Sorry I cant help with the actual problem.

My car does not have heat tho, does yours?

Wow, lol I'm finding these cars have a lot of issues. Does your coolant level go down when it happens? I checked the radiator coolant level when it was cold and the coolant was right at the top of the radiator and reservoir level was at full mark as well. I don't think it's done it since I topped off the radiator and reservoir at least I haven't noticed a puddle on the ground. The car doesn't run hot neither. I haven't used the heater yet since it's been ho but I will turn it on to see if I have heat when I get back this weekend from being on the road.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one that thinks like that, lol.

There’s two small hoses towards the back of the motor on the passenger side. If I remember correctly they run from the water pump to the block. The heat rots the hose, they make metal replacement that I used on my 2003.

Where that leak looks, two things come to mind, radiator hose is leaking OR a crack/problem with the plastic side tank on the radiator. Just this spring, I had to change the radiator on the black Monte I have (original radiator, 22 years old with over 200K miles). It had a stress crack in the plastic side tank towards the top. It was tricky to get eyes on it (as it was on the front of the radiator, had to look carefully to spot it). I have a picture of it here:

I have over 200,000 miles on my 2003 3.8 SS Monte Carlo. It is the easiest vehicle I’ve ever changed the oil on and fits my 6’1” frame very well. I drive it 100 miles a day to work. I only need approximately 100,000 more before I retire.

These motors are almost unstoppable. That’s why Chevrolet stopped producing them.

I hope you get the leak fixed, these radiators are not really easy to get out.

Mike
