RE: dex cool
well as long as its completly flushed out and completely cleaned it can be done to put green antifreeze in, the red stuff is murder on the seals and gaskets, thats why the 3.4's, and 3.1's have all the problems with intake manifold gaskets going is because of the red antifreeze
i would do it

RE: dex cool
are they still doing the 3.4 and the 3.1? also the 4.3, 5.0 and 5.7? i dont think they do those engines anymore, and they were the problems
not the 2.2, 2.4, 2.0, 4.8,5.3, 6.0 and 6.6, they dont have problems with the gaskets

RE: dex cool
I have dex cool in my 01, it has been flushed and refilled with dex cool by the dealer. My 100000 mile warranty will be up soon , and I dont want any problems after that. That is why I posted the question.
Thanks in advance

RE: dex cool
Okay here's the d/l:
DEXCOOL is BAD. GM no longer makes the 3100, 3400 (or3.4L DOHC), the 3800 will soon be phased out,4.4,5.0, or5.7. They still make the 4.3. Dexcool IS used in the 2.2, 2.4, 4.3, 4.8, 5.3, 6.0, 6.2 and not the 6.6. (I believe)I know this because I have a 2.2 w/DEX, my sister's new car ('08 Cobalt Sport)has a 2.4 w/dex, my buddy just worked on an '07 Silverado Classicw/the 4.3 w/dex, my dad has an '05 Silverado w/the 5.3 w/dex my buddy has an '05 4.8 w/dex, my cousins have a '07 Classic 6.0 w/dex and I'm pretty sure they put it in the new 6.2L, but I don't know anyone with that motor. The reason that the newer motors don't have issues is because GM engineered the gaskets around the compund in DEXCOOL that deteriorates the gaskets, and made them stronger. Bottom line: Flush the dex and put a universal coolant in.
