hey guys,

just out of curiosity, has anybody switched their monte from dex-cool to a universal coolant or to any other kind of coolant.

I can remember where i read it, but it was something about a substance in dex-cool ate through the gasket materials and thats why it caused a leak. I dunno if this was infact true, but i dunno. I figured with all the problems i've heard for the 3.1, 3.4, and 3.8, would it hurt to switch? Is it even possible to switch, or would my car have to many problems?

 

I haven't had a chance to do it but I am switching to the reg coolant. As long as you flush the system out real well reg coolant will be fine. My Fiance changed to reg coolant on his 98 Pontiac Grand Prix with a 3.8.

I have a '99 with the 3800 and I switched at 142,000 miles with no problems.

 

The `97LS has the dexcool but the`98 has the green prestone.

 

I'm doin the switch-a-roo when I change/fix my Intake on thurs. bout time!!
