Default Cooling Fan ???????????????????

When should the second cooling fan kick on in a 2002 monte carlo ss... 65k... i live in ATL and its been getting warmer than i feel it should lately. Just over halfway on the gauge.. the coolant was changed 20k ago and no water pump issues,,, thermo is newer too.

somewhere from 210-220 I think...

If its getting slightly warmer, and then coming back to normal, and then goes back up, and back to normal...and plays that game, then I would say you have a sticky thermo, or it is just coming up enough to kick on the fan, then comes down to normal again...If it stays hot all the time, maybe thermo is stuck closed..

How hot is the outside temp? your car should be stable at almost all temps....mine only starts playing the up and down game when im driving in traffic and it over 100 outside...

halfway is normal, a tiny bit over it if you are sitting. Because that's where the thermostat opens up. You could throw in a 180° thermostat, or just deal with it.

and the fans kick on at 212° I believe.

if you got a 180 tstat it would be nice if you could change your "fan turn on" setting to a lower temp with a programmer of some sort.

And you can do the keep fans on for 2 minutes after shutting the car off.

Your fans sound normal to me. Im in ATL too and my second fan kicks on about the same time. I had to replace my fans not too long ago, the motor finally died and engine temp kept shooting up. Pop that 180 degree thermostat in and you will be good to go. Or you could get the switch to turn them on when you want to. Its getting hot down here and summer hadnt even hit!
