Default climate control

Folks,

I'm looking for help on a 97 duct problem. I can change fans speeds, moderate flow to both sides of the car, and switch functions from AC to heat. That leads me to beleive my switches are making. WhatI cannot do is chagnedirection of the air flow. Heat and ac, at all speeds, and regardless of which vent I choose, all come through the dash (defrost vents).

My Haynes doesn't show me where the valves/baffles are or whether they are electric or vacuum driven ( I don't see any vac hoses going through the firewall. They could be in a harness...but why would you do that?)

So, anybody have any suggestions short of tearing the dash apart and tracking it down blindly?

Thanks in advance.
